Well, hello again. I know I've been MIA for months now, so today I want to break the radio silence. As you know, I moved to Lee University in August, and after three months, I've come up with a pretty grand list of things I love about it. And since everyone loves lists . . .
The people at Lee are legitimately amazing; and in just a few months, several of them have become such integral parts of my life. From adventures in Chattanooga, to kidnapping me on my birthday and taking me to Ihop, to conversations about Jesus and calling, they're there for all of it.
I love to learn. Anything. Anytime. I love it (my strengths test even told me so) and every single one of my professors are the best. My absolute favorite teacher this semester though has been Dr. Barnett. Dr. Barnett is a history teacher and a good one at that. First class he asked us why any of us hated history. People said things like "they're dead" or "it's boring" or "I have to read a lot."
In response he picked a person in the class and started writing down things about her: where she was from, her birthday, her favorite place, and lastly he made a fake date of death for her. After writing this down he turned to the class and said, "This is how you've been taught history. You've been taught to memorize dates and names, but that's not how we're going to do it. History is a story and the most important class you'll ever take."
It's been a long time since I've felt any sort of love for history because of all the lists and dates it makes me think of; but from day one, Dr. Barnett has made me fall in love with it.
3. The Clarion
I have been volunteering at Lee's newspaper since I got here, taking pictures of whatever they need. Last week I was given creative freedom to take pictures for an article on social media, and I was so ecstatic when it came out. It has definitely been a highlight for me.
4. Coffee Shops
I don't drink coffee, but I love nothing more than sitting in a coffee shop with a mango smoothie and a book or some homework. It's the perfect place to have deep conversations or to find motivation. Plus, it makes me feel like a writer.
5. My Roommate
God was really looking out for me when He connected my roommate, Brynna, and me. Our personalities go together perfectly. We're passionate about many of the same things, and our music taste is almost exactly the same. We have crazy dance parties, shoe runs, and photoshoots. Basically, she's my absolute favorite.
BONUS: New Ideas
College is an ideal place for idea kindling. From big ideas about God to conversations about living stars, people are always handing me ideas to think about. Faith is defined or shaken in those conversations. Passions are shared and sparked. It's a beautiful thing.
Honestly, I could go on and on about how much I love this place and this stage of my life. I'm so overwhelmed by God's blessing in my life. All I can say is I'm so glad I'm only at the cusp of it all, and I cannot wait to explore all there is before me.
