My fifth grandchild is due in July. It's been a while since I had a baby to gush on, so I am pretty excited--so excited that I was thrilled to plan and host a shower for my daughter-in-law, Hannah.
I started with the theme of children's books and it just evolved from there. My son Michael's favorite book when he was little was Just for You by Mercer Mayer, so the invitations were made with that in mind.
Each food item was tied to a specific title, and the decorations consisted of old toys, the books, flowers, and the food.
Oreo pops and goldfish were paired with Hooray for Fish and One Fish Two Fish. Tutorial for the pops here.
Cupcakes were paired with If You Give a Cat a Cupcake and My Many Colored Days. They were decorated with pictures from the inside cover of the Just for You.
Fruit was paired with The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Punch was a fruity, non-alcoholic sangria.
Veggies were paired with The Little Engine that Could and The Tale of Peter Rabbit.
Mini tacos were paired with Dragons Love Tacos. Recipe here.
Flowers were paired with Hannah's favorite childhood book, The Story of Ferdinand.
A bunting was made from the pages of Just for You. They were sewn to rickrack.
And a good time was had by all.
