Space:  The house is literally split down the middle.

Kelly and her crew get the back of the house and the east wing.  It includes a kitchen (with the best pantry ever), living room, dining room, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a laundry area.  The back deck has two entry doors and the side has one.

Denise and her crew get the front of the house, the west wing, and the upstairs.  It includes a kitchen, living room/dining room, two bedrooms, an office, a den, two bathrooms, and a laundry area.  There is an entry in the front, one in the back, and one off of Tessa's room to what was the school's fire escape.  There is also a creepy basement used for storage.

Financial Arrangements:  Kelly and Travis pay the electric bill for the entire house and for one Internet connection.  The rent collected from the carriage house apartments in the backyard is used to pay the gas bill (heat), the cable bill, and one Internet connection.  Denise and Michael pay everything else (mortgage, taxes, insurance).  Since there are two kitchens, each family buys their own food--but that does not mean that there is not a lot of sharing going on!

Privacy:  The huge double doors between the living rooms are opened on holidays and when entertaining a large group.  The French door between Denise's foyer/living room area and Kelly's dining area is only shut at night when everyone heads to bed. Everyone wanders back and forth between the two spaces all day long.

Maintenance:  Denise's husband, Michael, does most of the maintenance on the house since he is a contractor. Kelly's husband, Travis, does most of the painting because he is a painter.  Everybody helps with yard work because there is a lot of it. Maintaining the yard is our biggest source of frustration.

Out Buildings:  There are two studio apartments in the carriage house in the back yard.  When the downstairs apartment is not rented, we use it when family visits or as a pool house.  Also in the carriage house is a storage area that Kelly and Travis use.  There is a shed that was built on what was the school's four-square court.  It is used to store Denise's seasonal decorations, the lawn equipment, and Kelly's kiln.
